Mental Models and Learning Frameworks

What are mental models?

A mental model is an explanation, an idea or concept of how something works in a specific discipline. The phrase “mental model” is an overarching term for any sort of concept, framework, or worldview that a person carry around in their mind.

Mental models help a person understand life. For example, supply and demand is a mental model that helps a person understand how the economy works.

Mental models also guide a person’s perception and behavior. They are the thinking tools that a person use to understand life, make decisions, and solve problems. The best mental models are those that are the most useful in daily life.

This is why developing a broad base of mental models is critical for anyone interested in thinking clearly, rationally, and effectively.

According to Charlie Munger, for a person to be successful he/she has to learn all the big ideas in all the key disciplines in life and see how they interact with each other. He calls it building a Latticework of Mental Models.

Good Learning Frameworks

A good learning framework should enable a person to organize their acquisition and learning of mental models and see how they are related to each other. It should also enable them to see gaps in their mental models of the world they live in so that they can fill them.

The 12-box Peconaq Learning Framework provide a structured framework for a person to build the latticework for organizing their mental models.

A Peconaq game player can use the Framework to organize their learning and acquisition of mental models from various disciplines to meet their life objectives at different stages of their lives.

The Framework provides the game player a top-level mental model to organize all the entities he/she experience in their adventure life journey.

By using the Framework the player can “play a game” of observation, classification and investigation of the entities in the real world and how their behaviors are linked to their related invisible twin counterparts.

In this way it will enable the player to get a deeper understanding and awareness of the entities in the world they live in and how they are connected to their invisible twin counterparts.
